If you were to line everybody on these dating sites up, every fifth person would be a scammer.  Knowing that in advance makes life a whole lot easier. Because we can prepare for the scammer in advance.

Most important is, why are there so many scammers out there?  You might ask? 

Online dating scams, are not very nice people.

The reason is because there are many people in the world who are not very nice and they look to take advantage of people when they can.  Of course, they have all kinds of excuses like the victim has all kinds of money and I will only take a little bit of it.

Or the victim should know in advance that I am going to take advantage of them.  Online dating scams just have no morals at all and will take every last dollar that you have. There are all kinds of scammers and they hold all kinds of excuses to scam.

Everyone will come across online dating scams.

This being said, we need to come to an agreement. Everyone using an online dating platform will come across scammers at one time or another.  If we know the scammers are out there. We want to prepare ourselves in advance and hopefully shake them out sooner than later.

Getting scammed is not your fault.

I am hoping, by the end of this article you will have enough skills to notice scammers and the potential of being scammed.  Also, and be aware of online dating scams and know it is not your fault. Everyone will come across scammers.

What scams does average dating consumers need to be aware of?

We need to be aware that just like there are different people in many different profiles there are many different scammers and many different profiles.  Yes the common ones are men pretending to be women and trying to email as many as they can.

To give you a visual of this; a man might be pretending that he is five or six women.  He will build the profiles for these five or six women. He will try to lure unsuspectingly men into his web. Once he gets you there he will develop a small relationship with you. Online dating scams can start as simply as asking for money. Case in point here is watch out for the people asking for money. 

The second is the scamming woman who is trolling for the same. 

Online dating scams, will try to switch you regular email.

First, online dating scams typically will try to switch you from the dating platform to a personal email so they can receive their information through their own personal email address.  They want you to communicate with them outside of the dating platform.

The reason is they do not want to blow their cover. Once they get a good “bait profile” together by getting the pictures, they get the words in the profile, and they have their story down.  Scammers do not want to rebuild “scam profile” if they get exposed by you.

So often times they will ask you for your personal email address. This way they can communicate with you outside of the platform. Therefore if you report them it is only about e-mail and the platform won’t take them off the service.

Online dating scams and scammers always want more information.

Secondly, scammers often manipulate you for more personal information.  They want to know exactly what city you live in, what street you live on, possibly your phone number, and they will build “your Information” around this. 

You would be surprised at what information you can give to somebody. Your guard is down because you feel you are in the legitimate online relationship, over a short period of three months.  By that time you probably told them what state you live in, may have given them your bank account number, and or your driver’s license number. Scammers use many different excuses and games and scams to get what they want – your information. 

Online dating scams use reverse psychology!

They might try to use reverse psychology such as telling you they want to send you a birthday gift of $20 or $30 so you can spend it on something for yourself.

So, you send them your personal information such as a copy of your driver’s license or a picture of it so they can send it to you. Now they have got your driver’s license and they can go do many bad things with it.  In addition, it does not stop there, they may send you the money they use your driver’s license.

Online dating scams and scammers may ask you for your bank acct number so they can send you money directly to your bank. If you do, now they can do more sinister things like accessing your bank account directly. If you give them your bank account number, just to make a simple deposit, are you truly safe?

Imagine, they now have your driver’s license and your bank account information literally they can go and take all of the money out of your account. 

They can now get a new ATM card.

They use this information to communicate with the bank online and then have them send all of your money! Scammers can even get a new ATM card mailed to their address and thus scamming you for all of your money.  Another scam these scammers often try to do to unsuspecting people.

“I love you – you are perfect,” Online dating scams.

Another way scammers try to get into you by telling you how much they love you. 

It could be a woman telling you, “you are the perfect man” and they are “leading you on” with their comments of love and desire to build the scam on. 

Next, you give them your trust and now you are becoming easier target. Scammers can tell when you are letting down your guard. They will try to get your guard down so you will trust them. They will tell you “I love you so much,”  “we are meant to be together,” so eventually you will love them back by sending them gifts and money.

Scammers have perfect “Alluring” profiles.

Thirdly, scammers try to build wonderful profiles to capture your attention. 

They use pictures from the Internet and they will describe how much money they make, so you will not think they are a scammer.  Scammers will describe how attractive they are and what they are looking for in a man.

They use vague language that almost any man will fall for.  For example, a 25 years old scammer will say in their profile that they are looking for a man between 25 – 65 years old.

Online dating scams, look for the “age gap.”

This large age gap will encompass  90% of men on the platform. Scammers will not talk about any political affiliation. They will not talk about if they are members of any particular organization such as animal rights activists or global warming activists.  They want to make a profile that does not cause any red flags to the many people that read them.

Just imagine if you saw a really hot profile picture and a great profile of a woman says she is looking for men in their 40s or 50s to start a new relationship with. 

Just imagine that profile states they are looking for serious men only and please give them a smile back. Somebody in their 20s or 30s that will be attractive to many people on the dating platform.

Scammers get hundreds of “looks” a week.

As a result, the scammer gets hundreds of men a week exploring their profile and now it is just a number of games.  They speculate, one out of 10 men are going to send them money, one out of 25 will send them lots of money like $1000 or so, and 1/50 men are going to buy them luxury gifts and support them in someway.

They set their own scamming salary.

Ultimately, the scammers want 15-20 “fake relationships” to send them about $100 – $200 a month.  This would equal to about US$2,000 – $4,000 a month.  Not a bad part time job, when compared jobs scammers are forced to do.   

Online dating scams use your sympathy.

They might use the “story” of being a student, a sick parent, tuition for their child to hook you on.  

Specifically, scammers are generally looking for the older men they can take advantage of.  If you are an older man, meaning that you are communicating with people that might be 20 or 30 years younger than you be aware that you are a prime target for the scammers.

Look closely at their profile picture.

One way to help prevent being scammed is as simple as looking at their profile picture.  You can copy their profile picture and actually pasted within the Google search bar.

This will search all over the web where you can find his picture posted.  Is this picture found on many different sites, is this picture found on different dating site platforms?

Is this picture found in stock photography websites with many other women?  Simply copy and paste it into the search bar and find out if this picture goes anywhere else except to this dating website.

When you catch a scammer decide what to do.

If you catch the online dating scams and scammer with a picture on many other websites you have two choices: either you can yell and scream at them and waste a whole bunch of time or you can just stop communicating with them.  I choose the latter, you should just stop communicating save your time by continuing looking for your perfect love.

Another way to catch them in the scamming act is ask them to talk to on either video or voice calls.  When you are talking to them for the first time listen for background noises.

Listen for the “Scammer Mill” background.

Does it sound like they are in a scammer mill with as many other people talking communicating with others?  Does it sound like it is nice and peaceful in the backyard where they claim to be sitting at.

Are they rushed into giving you all the time that you need for the phone call? If your video chatting look into the background and see if you see anything suspicious. 

Look into their face and see if the words are matching the phrases coming out of their mouth. Is it a faraway picture or video or you can see them in the corner and you really cannot tell what they are saying?

If this is the case then it’s probably just a random girl that these men use and try to communicate with them.  Just be aware of the background, be aware of the sounds that you hear in the background, and make sure that it’s actually the person who says they are talking with you.

Listen carefully at their spoken words.

Do they speak the same way that they have been writing? That is, if you are speaking with somebody who writes pretty good English then they should be able to speak pretty good English as well. 

If somebody that is writing pretty good English but then it speaks to a broken English and really does not understand verb tense and how to put sentences together then you probably have a scammer.

Just beware, online dating scams are highly attuned to what you want to hear, what you see in the background, and what you see in their faces as you communicate with them.

You can also ask them to send you pictures of very specific activities that they are doing in the camera. 

Pose a different pose.

What I mean is, have them take a picture with her finger in their left ear. Have them take a picture looking up at the 12 o’clock position.  Have them take a picture of them looking down.

What this does, is proof to you that the person is reading your messages and that they are at least responding back in the way that you want them to respond. 

Is your dream woman a man, behind the scenes?

But again remember it could be a man who has hundreds of scamming relationships going on in the woman is just there to take pictures.  

Other ways to help prevent scammers from scamming you is to avoid giving and giving personal information. 

You should not give your address, the state 11, or information such as your driver’s license number, Social Security number, credit card numbers, banking information, or other information that they could use against you.

They will slowly get your information.

The scammers simply will carry on conversations to you bit by bit asking questions until you reveal all of this information that they want from you.

This might take three months for them to receive everything that they want and as a build up trust with you by spending more time, you will feel more relaxed and more pressure to give them what they are asking for. 

There are many ways they can sneak information. They might ask you that they want to send you a gift. They might ask you if you could send them a gift for their birthday or whatever and they might want your credit card number so they can buy a gift.

Keep your account numbers safe.

Again, never ever give banking information, credit card information, your street address, or anything else that they can use against you and avoid giving out your personal phone number.

All and all, one out of five profiles are scammers. 

Just know this in advance and follow some of the simpler rules discussed above and make sure that you communicate and brush out the scammers before you find yourself falling in love with one of their scamming scams.

One of the biggest secrets to find a good woman is to expand your views.

To see, you need to search in different areas of the world. Find a different ocean to fish in.  

Many times we get stuck searching for women on the popular online dating services in the Western world. Because, these women rarely will communicate with you and have at least 10 other suitors who are after their hands. 

You will have sent out hundreds or thousands of likes or smiles to find a good woman.

Then, if you are like me, you will have sent out hundreds or thousands of likes and/or smiles and/or waved us to get women’s attention with no luck. At least, that was my experience using many of the Western world’s online dating platforms.

What were the other choices to find the good woman?

Just like most people, I started my own backyard and started looking for women at meetups and some of the local clubs or bars.

Soon, I quickly stopped looking at the clubs and bars because it was not at the scene that I enjoyed.  I did not want to get a woman from this type of environment.

If you live with the idea that everything in life is good and that things such as trials that you face in life are ways that you can build a stronger relationship, and build a stronger life when you are living life with the right attitude.  As the Bible says James 1:2 find joy in the various trials we find in our life.

Keeping secrets causes suspicion, in a long distance relationship. 

Secrets and pretending to have secrets can also fuel evilness of jealousy.  Both parties should try not to have secrets from one another. If you are in a true romantic relationship with each other then you need to have trust and secrets are not a way of

building trust. If you pretend that you have a secret and no secret is there then you are playing games with the other person in the relationship.  I see that this secrets and the perceived idea secrets is another way people can become jealous and cause arguments within a relationship.

Setting some long distance relationship rules.

The jealousy continues to haunt the relationship then it is possibly time to set down some ground rules. 

Rules and relationships are not so uncommon for people living together and living apart. For example, you might have a rule, any time a man talks to a woman in a job setting,  he must tell his wife or partner about the situation. Then there are no secrets.

This rule would not be acceptable if the man works with alot of women and his job requires it.  Then maybe we could tighten this up or modify this rule to make it if the man has lunch with a woman from work he needs to explain this and share it with his wife.  Now the same thing goes with the wife and where she works. 

If she works on the phone and she talks with a man on the phone on a more personal level then she should share this experience with her husband.  The rules are for both parties and both parties should have a say in how the rules are applied and determined. Also, do not forget that you need to have a consequence on discussion if somebody breaks the rule.

Consequences for breaking relationship rules. 

Although this could be an article by itself and it is not the scope of this article I do need to point out that some simple consequences need to be in effect. 

A consequence, such as if the man goes to lunch without telling his wife then he has to do the dishes for the night.  Now one thing about consequences if you are going to an implied consequence then you need to apply forgiveness as well.  So what does this whole situation look like. 

For example, a man talks to a woman at lunch he does not normally talk with and spends a little time together on a professional basis.  He forgets to tell his girlfriend and two or three days goes by. When the girlfriend calls and tells her she saw him at lunch with the different woman she is mad. 

The wife confronts her husband and says you had lunch with the different woman what is this all about.  He explains himself and says it was all professional and that he forgot to tell you about it. 

He will of course agree, it was a mistake and he will never do it again without telling you.  As a consequence he has to wash all the dinner dishes at nighttime.

He did his consequence he apologized and you need to accept his apology.  Now apologies and forgiveness can have a whole new meaning in the bedroom.  This might be a time when you can find some time to be alone and increase your relationship the next time you meet an intimate way.

Long-distance relationship problems with arguing.

Unfortunately the old adage is true it takes two people to argue.  Taking that another step further it takes two people to fight. I have to stress that if you are in a relationship and it is a long-distance relationship it is going to be easy for people to get their tempers twisted. 

But you need to keep yourself calm and not get upset when simple everyday things turn into arguments.  You need to control yourself as an adult and your partner needs to do the same. 

If you are in a relationship and yelling and screaming as part of your norm then I guess continued to yell and scream and forgive and makeup on your own.  But most people do not live this kind of hectic lifestyle.

Be close enough to share your feelings to each other. 

Being adult enough to share your feelings calmly and quietly even though you do not agree with but somebody else is saying it is part of maturity. 

As become more mature with ourselves we can become more mature and patient with others in our life.  This includes kids, parents, and our significant others.

Arguing is for immature people. 

There is no place to argue arguing is for immature people that do not know how to maintain a proper adult discussion. 

Knowing this you need to avoid screaming and yelling and fighting on the telephone as much as possible.  If you are on a phone call and an argument is going to stir up more, and then fuel other problems in the very near future. 

Arguing is not an option both of you need to learn how to control yourselves and learn how to talk like adults. Communicating in a long-distance relationship.

Use video chat in a long distance relationship. 

The best way to communicate with somebody is video chat.  Things like face-time and Skype are all great applications that allow you to video chat with your partner. 

 You can use video chat anywhere you want to, including the bedroom.  I would recommend that all the above to make sure that your relationship maintains a little spice.

Silent treatment the silent killer. 

If however you find out that people are not answering your calls or giving you the silent treatment this is another area where maturity in a relationship needs to prevail.  It is so easy to feel like you are left out and using the silent treatment and a long-distance relationship because of the time differences. 

Try not to use this as a weapon because it is one thing that you are trying to overcome in your long-distance relationship.  Somebody called you a date in the morning you should give them credit send them a text as soon as you normally would wake up or reply. 

In my relationship we had a 15 hour difference.  So she knew exactly what time I went to sleep and what time I woke up and replied her text messages accordingly.  Have that same respect for the other side as well where you know what time they wake up and you can send them texts and messages as well.  It is a nice feeling when you get a virtual good morning kiss as a messages you rolling out of bed.

Being flexible in a long-distance relationships.

Even though all relationships have problems we need to have guidelines for the rules and for the actions that we all take. 

So if you are going to make rules in the relationship make sure that their agreed-upon by both parties and that you have consequences and rewards system set up for when you need them.

In short, you are not going to make rules for something that you need rules for just to make rules.  You are going to find an issue causing a strain in the relationship and then you may attach a rule to it so both people understand how it affects both sides.

4. Trust and faith will help build your relationship so it can endure. The way you build trust is one step at a time. One event at a time. 
5. Build trust by being side-by-side hand-in-hand or video by video with each other. Building trust and maintaining trust is the second element of maintaining a strong online relationship.

Age is Just a Number?

In the dating world many times we hear the phrase age is just a number and should I consider dating a younger woman?

A 19-year-old woman may have the idea that she wants to go out partying until the early hours of the morning. 

It is these types of cultural attitudes that make a 19, 20, 21-year-old Western woman somewhat immature and reluctant to date older men.  I understand there is always two sides of the coin and yes there are very responsible early 20-year-old woman in the Western world.  

However, I am contrasting this with the average Filipino woman who typically does not let an age gap hinder their relationship.

Dating a younger woman 20 years younger in the Philippines means that your cultural attitude needs to take a shift.  This is a very large paradigm shift coming from the Western world.

Ever since a young age Filipino girls are taught to serve their fathers, serve the church, and when the time comes to serve their husbands.  When they are taught serving they are talking about doing everything that makes their mate, their family, flow in a mature and stable way.

Filipino girls are taught to serve their husbands.

Filipino girls are taught, at home and in the church to serve their husbands and he is a leader in the household.  

Yes, this concept is also taught in the Bible where the woman shall submit to their husbands, yes I know the other side of that is men need to submit to their women in many areas as well.  But the reason is the Bible stresses it so people do not get in arguments during and in their relationship.  

It is the small things that can ruin a relationship so young men and women need to be able to be submissive to each other so they can prosper in their relationship.

Although age is a number when dating a younger woman, a large age difference between the couple is somewhat frowned upon in the Western world.  In contrast, the age difference in the Philippines is sometimes encouraged.

With the idea that girls and young women in the Philippines are products of their culture, which is to serve and they may have a much larger view on the woman’s role and relationship.  This views often slightly more mature than girls from the Western world which encourages Philipino women to date older men.

In my experience, when I was searching online for dating a Filipino I often receive replies from people that were 18, 19, or 20 years old.  Although this was not my search criteria they just popped up automatically.

All in all is that such a bad dream for these women?  

I am not sure but I was not offended by it and I was somewhat intrigued about their brutal honesty.

As I further communicated with these women I thought I would ask what their families thought about people who were older?  It would all similarly reply with the answer of age is just a number and if the man is mature, solid, and able to support us that is what their parents are looking for. 

So there you go, the girls were looking for support and a better place to live, and their parents were looking for the same thing for their daughters.

So what is the right age difference for Online dating?

This is a very personal question and I have to agree that at this point age is only a number.  When you are searching for your life partner and you see that somebody’s not really interested in one of your hobbies you would most likely stop communicating with them.  

In the same way, if you see somebody who is interested in your hobbies and your lifestyle and they are literally younger than you probably pursue them and ask some more detailed questions.

Because you know, at home the Filipina has strong support with her family they are looking for the best for her in ages truly not a difference.

In contrast, what will your family in the West think of?  Well yes if you are 60 years old near dating or marrying a 22-year-old you are bound to get some eye rolls.
